Seems I can't get away from London Transport subjects!
I visited the Dartmouth Steam railway in deepest Devon last week and was hauled by this:
Mind you, there was also this thing of beauty (a little more appropriate for the location, although I'd guess Kings hardly came here in BR days):

She was a guest at the Swindon and Cricklade railway, not far from me a few years ago. Had a ride behind her and they let me on the footplate to take some pics.

As a kid who lived in Tilehurst 10 mins walk away from the GWR mainline I'd sometimes spot one of these machines hauling an express to either Bristol or the Cornish Riviera. To my eye this still remains the most gorgeous looking steam locomotive of all time, closely followed by the Castle class........... My wish to drive one of these one day has only been fulfilled in part by TS. It is probably one of the most difficult of locos to manage. Juggling boiler pressure, water injection, throttle and reverser whilst trying to maintain the ideal firebox mass with coal shovelling. I managed to get her up to 95 mph for about twenty minutes which earned me an award. I was cuffed to bits, not an easy task. To do all this and keep an eye on the signals is a lot of intense work.
