One thing the original VDL was sorely lacking was good documentation - in fact, documentation of any kind. Apart from a scrappy piece of paper containing the D78 key commands, that was passed around like an item of currency.
Phase II has real documentation, and it's been updated and expanded for V2.1. The Route Guide contains all you need to know about driving the District, signals, termini, stations, depots, sidings, NL rules, etc all nicely illustrated. Very useful info for scenario creators too.
Likewise the Train Stocks Operator's Manual covers all the 7 trains/locos we've included in detail with driving guides, screenshots, all the key commands and mouse clicks, and annotated control desk pictures, etc. They are both about 50 pages, so both an interesting bedtime read and useful reference manuals. They will be auto installed in the TS documentation folder.
And for V2.1 there's a new Guide... see below.
So you will never again have to ask what a green over yellow signal means, what an 'arbor light is, how to reverse in The Yard, how or why the weak field flag is used, why the D78 will only apparently goes 30mph, what a deadman is or why the reverser won't move. Impress your friends. Drop words like "tripcock" into the conversation at parties. And all for the ridiculously low outlay of actually spending a little time reading them. Plus it gives us the opportunity to say RTFM when appropriate. Thank you.
After VDL installation you will find the docs in <TS location>/Manuals/EN
