I posted a message about the problem in the thread title a few days ago. I understand it is on the list of things to look at. As a interim fix I have downloaded this : sourceforge.net/projects/equalizerapo/I have had excellent results reducing the volume at 3000 Hz and 4000 Hz without it seeming to effect the overall sound quality. But which sound in particular is causing the effect you are hearing?

my original post "When I drive the D78 stock there is a high pitched "pulse" of about 1 second duration all the time. Tried it on my laptop as well same. I am a route tester for "alex 55" the author of the WCML south route and I got him to try it on his system and he has the same sound." Reply from Jimi "It is likely the Motor-Alternators (MAs) sound, which is very high pitched. Some people hear a pulse and some do not. Seems to be sound card dependent. We have it on our list to look at further and see if we can improve it. Thanks!"

Appreciate the input! And SoundForge is a great tool - I've been using it longer than I can remember.
Just to verify - try tripping the MAs (shf-M) and see if the sound goes away totally. Reset with shf-R.

I have tried the above suggestion. It makes no difference on my system at all.

OK, so it's not the MA sound. I'm trying to eliminate possibilities. As you say it happens periodically we know it's a sound loop. Let's see if we can narrow it down in one go. You said it was present all the time, which led to to think a background noise like the MAs. However if it's when driving, you could be in one of several states:
Does the sound occur when motoring, coasting (off/release) or braking?
I'd bet motoring, or more faintly when coasting. If so it's the motor loop. Once we identify the loop we can apply a similar notch cut filter to our sound WAV and greatly reduce the pulse. Pleas let us know as much info as possible.

No its is as soon as you get in the cab. Stationary or moving makes no difference at all.
FYI shift+M and shift+R do not seem to have any effect. Shift+L does not always turn the lights on. When I change ends again and the cab light switch which I left on when using that cab last is still on but the light are not. So the switch on the panel has to be cycled to get the lights back on. I don't know if that is a bug or not.

OK, so it *is* the MA loop running. We're hearing the same thing and will attempt a fix as part of the in-progress update patch. Thanks!
Regarding your comments re saloon and cab lights - which train? I ask as the lighting code is different for D78 and C69.

Thanks I just tried it again now I know its Ctrl Shift-M & Ctrl Shift-R not as above without the Ctrl key :-). Yes the "pulse" goes instantly so as you state it is the MA loop. As regards the cabin lights I was referring to the D78 stock.
