Not strictly VDL related, but I thought members here might be interested in a new group formed by a few people I know with the aim of preserving one of the Isle of Wight Class 483s. www.lttractiongroup.co.uk/

A very worthy group and cause indeed. Thanks for sharing with us.

Thank you for your kind words, Eddie.
I've come to here to publicise the fact that, in addition to our campaign to preserve a Class 483 unit, we are producing a number of videos showing LT stock in TS as well as working on a few upgraded versions of the Island Line route covering 1967, 1988 and 2020.
The videos may be found on our YouTube channel. We hope to bring some Virtual District content soon!

Cheers, Eddie. I reckon the first VDL video will be going up tomorrow. We would like to be featuring more shots of real-life vintage LT traction but unfortunately we can't exactly go out and film it at the moment!

Our first VDL video is now live! Only a short one, basically conducted as a test to see if my PC could handle running steam on the route whilst filming. It slows down quite a bit in places, but it's generally tolerable -

Excellent first video. It has a suitably grimy feel to it. I can almost smell that Welsh coal smoke.

This effort to preserve a Class 483 sounds wonderful - I was actually talking to someone the other day about the units and how I thought someone should preserve one! I look forward to seeing what the group can do for Train Sim as well - maybe this will prompt more groups in the preservation scene to look into doing Train Simulator content? -Peter

We hope to bring some exciting developments soon, but I'm not in a position to say what they are just yet!

Very exciting news indeed Dan. I'm sure I speak for everyone on these boards when I wish you all success with this new venture. All of us here and the general public will be clamouring for a ride.

Cheers Eddie - things are progressing very nicely at the moment so we hope to bring more news soon.
Once we have secured a unit we will be opening up for donations and membership-by-subscription, if anyone here is interested.

Very interesting. It would be nice to see how you get on.
The Q Stock project at the LT Museum (which I am a volunteer for, hence the picture) have our own plans to make it possible to run our train off the LU Network. The museum has very good relations with LU Transplant so we will be able to hire a battery loco for parts where ATO/CTBC signalling is in place, but we also have acquired 4 brake vans (2 for the Q Stock and 2 for the 1938 stock) which we will use as match vehicles allowing the train to be hauled by a diesel loco on non-electrified lines. We also have an A-stock trailer car which came from the Rail Adhesion Train which we have kept with the possibility that it can be turned into a mobile generator vehicle to power the train and allow it to be driven by itself.

There was a video here, but as it was a stream that didn't work very well I've removed it!

With class 483 withdrawals a little over a month away, the London Transport Traction Group are delighted to announce that this evening we were officially informed by South Western Railway that we have successfully secured a Class 483 unit for preservation. A representative from South Western Railway told us; "I can confirm that you will have a unit for preservation. I can’t confirm which unit yet as the preservation committee have not given me a final answer but it is highly likely to be 483006 and if it is not then it will be 483008 (both of which are currently operational and in service). In terms of timing – I expect we will be in a position to release the unit for collection around the end of the line closure in March." This is truly wonderful news, but also represents only the first step in our journey that we hope will soon see a class 483 unit, cosmetically restored to London Transport condition, running on the Epping Ongar Railway under its own power and visiting galas around the country, taking a tube train where none has ever gone before and introducing the joy of the '38 stock to new audiences. To do this we require your help. Our pledge scheme has been very successful, but we still require support. Earlier this week we opened up membership and donation options, which may be found on our website - www.lttractiongroup.co.ukAlthough these are difficult times for many, we would greatly appreciate any assistance that you may be able to offer to our exciting and innovative project that has the potential to lead the way in electric railway preservation.
