I've just had a run through the D78 farewell trip. Two things I noticed: * When the train is stopped at Acton Bank waiting for the Pic train to pass, I think it would be a good place for a Driver announcement as the train will usually be sitting there for several minutes. * There aren't any juice rails inside the Shed at Ealing Common Depot. Does the Shunter give the train a push? Kev

Hi Kev. We could likely add an announcement, but it would depend on what time you (the Operator) arrive and thus your dwell waiting for the Picc train. But operationally you are certainly correct. The Op should announce if the wait exceeds limits. Re ECMDT - there aren't any juice rails therein or in any depot sheds. A train can be moved in most of the way (6 car mark) on juice and then be connected to shed leads. These hang at intervals and plug into an external receptacle on a car. There's a lot of maintenance work goes on in the sheds and you don't want that danger of live rails to contend with.
Take a read of the section about ECMDT in the Route Guide. There's more info in there regarding procedures in the depot.
"...maybe even "can you put it on 8 Ealing, six car mark". That last one is important - 8 is a shed road, so there would be a problem if he said 8 Acton (can't cross the middle). The six car mark is also important - it means the back car is left "on juice" outside the shed. If they want it "off juice", they'll say "take it right in" or simply "leave it off juice". "
Thanks for the comments! Nice to see someone noticing details.

There's a lot to read, so I could not blame you for missing some of the detail. And you did quesiton a detail that no one else had spotted. Good observation!
I originally wrote the docs hoping they might be an interesting read the first time, and then maybe a good reference guide to look up info. I'm in process of revising/updating the Route Guide and the Stocks Operator Manual so any feedback/suggestions/questions you might have would be very welcome.
