Hi. I've known about this project for years, although one thing stopping me from playing the Virtual District Line was the Just Trains requirements. Long story short, buying stuff outside of Steam is expensive as hell for me because of no regional pricing. Although last year, the London Underground content from Just Trains was released on Steam, not without many issues for the Metropolitan Line route. Apparently those issues have never been fixed, however I might still buy them if that means I get to run the VDL. The requirements page only lists the Metropolitan Line on Steam, although not the S Stock trains which are also on Steam.

None of us in the team have the Steam version of the Met. We all have the JT version. If you buy it on Steam there is no guarantee it will work with VDL. It will be a gamble. I would post a comment on the Steam forums and ask other users if they are running the VDL with the Steam version of the Met. JT do a bundle deal of the Met Route and S7+1 ( which is the version we have used in our Top Man scenarios. We all bought that and it is very good value to be honest. In effect you get the S7+1 for only about £11.00.

My initial assumption was that both the Steam and JT store releases are identical.
But it's whether the Steam version is up-to-date with any service packs that JT have put out. Apart from that the file structure is exactly the same.
I'm inclined to think it is up to date as so far we haven't had anyone report issue with signalling problems or particular scenario problems.

In effect you get the S7+1 for only about £11.00. I once asked on the Steam forums if the issues with the Steam version of the Met line were ever fixed, at it doesn't seem to be the case. Apparently Dovetail Games messed up something when publishing the route, and never bothered to address it. I never asked if people with the Steam version could run the VDL, though. In the JT page, the bundle you mention is currently being sold at 60 USD, which IMHO is unreasonably expensive for something that isn't a major AAA game. Although Steam makes special prices for our country due to inflation, so maybe I'm spoiled by that. My initial assumption was that both the Steam and JT store releases are identical. The Steam version is plagued by performance issues and crashes from what the reviews tell. Although I've heard some people who have that version reported no problems. Like Eddie said, it's a gamble. The JT version seems to be the one to get, but as I said it's a bit of a steep price for me, at least with no discount. I have created a JT account all the way back in 2019, although I never paid too much attention to their sales, maybe I should from now on. Hopefully by Christmas time they will put what I need on a more accessible price. I already have all the other requirements, minus the new tracks which are freeware and I can get anytime I want.
