Intro: I'm a minor tube geek and an I.T. guy (support & dev for an airline). For my own amusement, have written Python apps to talk to the TfL API. Saw an article in PC Pro mag last month about train/tube sims, thought that sounded like something I want to do. My initial investigations revealed VDL, and I immediately felt that is where I want to be. Have purchased TS Classic from Steam as that appeared to be the way to start. Now daunted by the long list of VDL prerequisites. Saw in a thread lur.boards.net/post/8493/thread that buying the Met package from Steam would be a mistake. I also see that JT offer a bundle but Steam do not. Moving forward, there are loads of other paid-for packages that are required, some of which seem ONLY to be available from Steam. Not found a way of identifying if a Steam product is also available as part of a package (why would they tell you if it meant they were getting less money...). So, as an experienced IT person & tube enthusiast, but novice gamer/simmer, where do I start? Is there a FAQ; if not, should write one... I run both MacOS and Windows 10 machines (obviously TSC only on Win). Do I need to re-buy TS Classic direct and dump the Steam version? Can I buy the Met & S7+ package direct for use with Steam TSC? How do the many other Steam-only prerequisites fit in? Many thanks. Mark

We went with using assets from other routes to save time and cost - else we couldn't develop and distribute the VDL for free. When we originally released the other routes we borrowed from were those that a majority of TS users bought and so already had when installing early VDL. We are reviewing these assets as part of other planned work and hope to reduce the "other assets" list in a future release. For now, get the Met bundle from Just Trains. Ideally the Met, The Met Enhancement Pack and the S7 that comes with it all. All else (including TS itself, other routes, etc.) get from Steam. There are periodic deals and bundles from both Steam and JT, but we have no inside info as to when/what these might be. We do keep an eye out and make folks aware if we spot anything. There isn't a FAQ as most folks read the posts on here or ask questions. There's many on here with a lot of experience running the route. We do encourage you to read the Route Guide and Stock Operator's Manual; both of which are available for download from

TVM for your response and helpful tips. Have now moved forward considerably. Hit a few problems, but I'll ask about them in a more appropriate board of this forum.
