Hi all, Having been a long time railway enthusiast and MSTS and BVE fan since it was released. I really love the london transport trains on MSTS especially the LT 1959 stock by Richard Scott, or others may've been involved. I i'm seeking permission from the developers of that train to try and convert it to openbve. Is there anyway of contacting him, if he's still active in the train sim community that is. Also is there a conversion program I could use. Any help on those matters willbe very appreciated. I also love the new district line add on you're building.

Richard is still a team member and active, albeit quietly, on this board. There were 3 of us worked on that train back around 2006 - Richard (model), Darren (cab), myself (physics and controls). I'm sure permission wold be gladly given for your intent. The key would be if the original source files are still in existence. The model was created in 3D Canvas IIRC. There *may* be a way to convert the model files to another format (Blender?) and our resident graphics expert Xavier can likely best comment on that.
There have been recent thoughts in the team to create the 59TS for TS as part of our likely next phase of route extension related to the Piccadilly Line sections. So it is possible Richard has some material or ideas in mind.
I'll PM him to make him aware of this thread, and I'm sure Xavier will spot it also and contribute. We'll help you all we can.

It's not impossible to convert out of MSTS. However, I think the best chances depend on the old MSTS source files being available.
The only known methods of reverse-compiling an MSTS shape file will likely unsmooth the model or even miss out certain faces or nodes altogether, so you'd probably end up with a totally unusable model.
Moving from Canvas to Blender is something I do know about as that's how I completed the R49 cab and interior, but fundamentally the one thing you can't pass from one to the other is the animations. So if you need those for OpenBVE then you'll have to recreate them again.
But I know virtually nothing about how OpenBVE works so can't offer advice about how you'd get the model into the sim once you have it.

Many thanks for the replies and help. I accidentally created another post regarding this so ignore that one. Any updates or extra info will be great. It would be nice to add some graffiti, wear and tear to these trains, and obviously realistic sound effects etc. I love TS and MSTS but BVE had those point and rail joint sounds perfect! Armstrong powerhouse are good though. Take care.

Sorry, just seen this.
Whilst I would have no objection to such a conversion, I no longer have my original files. In fact, if I did they would not load into recent versions of Canvas, as I've discovered with other old models.
I suspect the process of conversion and then fixing would be harder than creating a new model.
I haven't ruled out making the 59 stock for our Virtual District, but work hasn't started yet (well, maybe a bit of research!).
So if you can find a suitable source, go for it. I cut my modelling teeth on BVE and retain a fondness for it. Only sorry I can't help there.
Richard
